We went to Lake Harriet and the girls caught tons of fish. The surprise of the day was when we accidentally caught a duck. It was actually kind of upsetting. A duck went after the bait on the hook and ended up swallowing the whole hook. I had trouble cutting the fishing line, so the duck was stuck with a hook in its stomach and about 50 feet of fishing line stuck to it. After this incident we cut our fishing expedition short and decided to spend time at the swimming beach instead.

Here are some of the fish we caught and our picnic afterwards:

Getting Ready for the Wedding

The girls spent the afternoon helping Loni and Mike get ready for their wedding. Their favorite project was helping fill bottles with colored sand for part of the wedding centerpieces. As we were going to bed that night, Kayla said that she was excited to have Loni as a new aunt. We are all excited to have her join our family.

Simple Pleasures
One of the biggest hits of the trip so far has been hanging out in Grandma and PopPop's beautiful backyard. The girls love the flowers and making bouquets, stuffing them in the mailbox, trying to put them on Comet the dog, and decorating their bathing suits and hair with flowers. Playing with Comet is always fun. Kayla played chase and tug-of-war with him for at least an hour today. The girls also love the sprinkler.
Minnesota
We are on our annual summer trip to Minnesota. We have only been here 2 full days and have already done tons of stuff. Here are some of the highlights so far: hiking near a waterfall and wading in the creek, going to the zoo and carnival rides, running through the sprinkler, playing on the banks of the Mississippi River, visiting a lock and dam on the river, and going to an amazing circus called "Circus Juventas," it is sponsored by Cirque du Soleil and is very much like the original Cirque - lots of amazing acrobatics, costumes, and music.
